Applications to deliver the Millin Lecture 2025 are now open!


The 48th Millin Lecture will take place in RCSI on Friday, 14 November 2025.


The opportunity to deliver this prestigious lecture is open to all the surgical specialties. The opportunity is open to candidates who are either Members or Fellows of the College, in good standing, for the lectureship. Usually, the successful applicant will be well-advanced in his/her surgical training or in their first five years in consultant practice.

Preference will be given to candidates whose surgical research has been carried out wholly or in part in Ireland. The chosen theme shall be of clinical interest embodying original research, comprising a substantial body of work and be suitable for presentation as a formal lecture. The Lecturer will receive the Millin Medal.

The application window for the 2025 Millin Lecture is now open and will close on Friday, 19 September 2025.

Gain essential skills and knowledge to enhance your teaching skills as a clinician – Clinicians as Educators – Effective Teaching Skills (Micro-credential) – January 2026 intake – Open to doctors including Interns, NCHDs and Surgical Trainees 


Please note you can now register your interest for our online micro-credential “Clinicians as Educators – Effective Teaching Skills” for January 2026 intake. 


This Module aims to support and promote the development of your role as a teacher and assessor in clinical practice and is in essence a “Teach the Teacher “course – 10 ECTS. 


Please note this micro-credential has limited places so you are advised to apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. As well as gaining insight into educational theory the module is very practical in its approach and will ensure improvement of your clinical bedside and classroom teaching and assessing skills. Scholars will have lots of opportunity for peer and faculty discussions on clinical teaching experiences and challenges and will gain insights into developing solutions.

This year’s programme includes a wide range of courses for NCHD's in surgery and emergency medicine including Trauma 360 - Simulation for Survival Certificate, Managing Adverse Events, Core Clinical Communication Skills for Aspiring Surgeons, and more. The programme also includes self-paced online courses, including a new course, Good Clinical Practice, Safe Clinical Handovers, Communication Skills for Video and Telephone Consultations and Medical Science for Surgery and Emergency Medicine.

MD/PhD by Prior Publication - Applications open now 


RCSI School of Postgraduate Studies is delighted to announce that we are accepting applications for the next intake of the MD and PhD by Prior Publication programmes.  These Level 10 NFQ major awards are accredited by RCSI and the National University of Ireland programmes. They are open to research active RCSI staff (at any of our campuses), RCSI Honorary Appointments, RCSI Trainees, Members or Fellows and RCSI Alumni. Applications will be accepted until 15 August for an October 2025 start.


These programmes offer the opportunity to medical graduates with a record of publications in medicine, surgery or clinical science to complete an MD by prior published works. Those with a record of publications in biomedical, clinical and health services research can complete a PhD by prior published works. 


This route to an MD or PhD allows scholars who have sufficient research experience at doctoral level, as demonstrated through already published material, to gain academic recognition for their work over a minimum registration period of one year. 


We would like to invite interested applicants who meet the eligibility criteria to apply before 15 August.

RCSI Colles Travelling Fellowship in Surgery 2026


Applications are invited for the RCSI 2026 Colles Travelling Fellowship in Surgery.  The object of the award is to promote the acquisition of additional surgical skills and knowledge that will contribute to the advancement of surgical science and practice in Ireland and is the most prestigious surgical travelling fellowship offered by the RCSI.


The Fellowship is open to Fellows and Members of the College who are in, or have completed within the previous two years, a higher surgical training programme in the Island of Ireland.


The Fellowship, which must be full-time, is tenable for one year abroad and includes a College Medal, stipend and travel allowance to a maximum amount of €20,000.  Additional travelling grants, up to a maximum of €30,000 may also be awarded to either the Fellowship winner and/or other worthy candidates.  It is anticipated that the award(s) will relate to Fellowships commencing from July 2026.
